From waste to energy; and all through Renescience, a groundbreaking technology.
So, what does this technology involve? Household waste is used as the raw material for generating biomass and biogas. The principle is revolutionary: enzymes that separate the organic fraction from the solid fraction. These enzymes are of natural origin and can handle various types of waste, provided that organic materials make up the majority.
The solid fraction that remains after treatment and filtering is so clean that plastics and metals can be easily recovered using conventional techniques.
VDL ETG Projects applied this technology for the first time in processing plants in Northwich, UK.
An ambitious undertaking with one main challenge: processing 15 tonnes of waste per hour.
Vicoma’s Role
Our involvement began with piping works, but it didn’t stop there. Ultimately, a full multidisciplinary Vicoma team contributed to this project.
We were responsible for both process and structural engineering. Our mechanical engineering team developed the layout engineering for the entire installation, arranging the new equipment in the most efficient and practical way.
We also drafted specifications for outsourcing, selected suppliers, evaluated tenders, and supervised the delivery and commissioning of various components.
Result
The Renescience installation is now fully operational; and making the world just that bit cleaner. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?
