About the Project
“Can you support us in replacing an existing switching station and disentangling our operations from those of TenneT?” That was the question Stedin posed to us. This separation was necessary due to changes in the division of responsibilities between the two parties within the Dutch electricity grid. An added challenge: adjacent high-voltage pylons and switchyards that had to remain operational throughout the project.
Vicoma’s Role
An interesting challenge; and one we were keen to take on. We were responsible for the complete architectural and structural design, including the integration of building-related installations. Naturally, we accounted for the existing situation and the operational reliability of the various components. We also planned the construction sequence and produced dedicated drawings to support it. Our safety documentation contributed to a secure working environment for the construction teams.
Our architects designed a sleek, calm, and modern building with an eye for detail. By incorporating an architrave and masonry pilasters, referencing classical switching stations, we added a layer of character to the building’s design.
Result
A pragmatic translation of the technical requirements, featuring logical routing and rooms with multiple access points to ensure safe and functional use. The new building fits seamlessly into a complex environment, both aesthetically and functionally, and meets the demands of a site with strict constraints. Stedin was justifiably very pleased with our contribution.
