About the Project
We are also active in mobility these days. Environmentally friendly mobility, in fact. We contributed to the development of an electric tractor designed for organic farming.
A notable feature of this tractor is its variable track width. The weight of a tractor compresses the soil and initiates a vicious cycle: compacted soil requires more pulling power, leading to heavier tractors. An additional drawback is that compacted soil is also less fertile. In the Netherlands, about 60 farmers practice Controlled Traffic Farming: they use GPS to drive over the same tracks every time.
The Role of Vicoma
The machine engineering team at Vicoma has played an advisory role. The designs of the “Multi Tool Trac” were using advanced FEM analysis techniques. This allowed us to clearly identify the critical aspects of the design. Our improvement proposals were implemented, resulting in an optimal final product in terms of both technology and cost.
Result
“Multi Tool Trac”: the multifunctional tool tractor now also comes in an environmentally friendly electric version engineered by Vicoma. The electric tractor features all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, enabling sharp turns at the end of a field. The cabin can be moved along a rail from front to back. To ensure fewer tracks are left on the land, thereby preserving more cultivable soil, the “Multi Tool Trac” has an adjustable track width: wide in the field and narrow on public roads.
