About the Project
Medtronic was keen to avoid any risks in realising their new headquarters. Therefore, they asked us to conduct a facility assessment first, taking into account their growth expectations over the next years. We designed two building volumes with flexibility to allow for expansion of both the office and warehouse spaces. By integrating architectural, technical, and logistical aspects, we created an efficient working environment that met the exacting standards of both Medtronic and their insurance provider.
Vicoma’s Role
Our study identified opportunities to improve Medtronic’s logistical and production processes, thereby enhancing the quality of their services. Vicoma’s involvement extended beyond advising on space utilisation; we also played a key role in both the preparation and the construction phases.
Result
A beautifully designed new European headquarters for Medtronic, nestled in greenery and featuring a striking winter garden soaring to twenty metres in height. This unique space serves as a reception area, traffic hub, meeting place, and thermal buffer. It remains comfortably warm in winter thanks to the low-angle sun’s rays and stays pleasantly cool in summer due to a generous awning shielding it from the high-angle sun. An underground corridor links the office to the logistics centre, and a water treatment facility produces osmosis water that can be reused in cleaning processes.
