About the Project
In the chemical industry, a fluidised bed dryer is used for drying and cooling powders, granules
and pellets. Lucite wanted to modify an existing production line by installing such a dryer and engaged Vicoma for the task. Lucite International, a leading producer of plastic semi-finished products, intended to manufacture a product currently produced in the US at their European facility. Vicoma was asked to provide a budget for modifying the production line to include the fluidised bed dryer. After approval from Japan for the Netherlands facility, the project commenced.
Vicoma’s Role
The modifications involved process engineering, electrical and instrumentation engineering, and civil engineering. The main challenge was the tight timeframe, which we met by completing extensive preparatory work during the preliminary phase.
Using laser scanning, we obtained an accurate picture of the available space. Structural calculations were carried out early for permits and quotes were gathered from suppliers and contractors. Once underway, the project progressed smoothly, with regular updates provided to Lucite.
Result
An expanded product range for Lucite in Europe.
A welcome bonus: condensate from the production process is now reused as deionised water. Lucite and Vicoma look back on a successful collaboration.
