Logistics Park Afrikahaven: Ensemble of distribution centres

About the Project

The Atlaspark industrial area offers a unique and optimal combination of sea, air, rail, and road transport, making it the ideal location for the large-scale distribution centre “Afrikahaven.” It is a hotspot for distribution companies, logistics service providers, and industry alike. Situated in the Port of Amsterdam, just 15 km from Schiphol Airport and close to a container terminal serving both short sea and deep-sea shipping, the site benefits from ample empty depot facilities. The area is further supported by excellent rail and inland waterway connections.

Vicoma’s Role

We designed a distribution centre at this prime location comprising several distribution halls with a total area exceeding 105,000 m². Considerable attention was paid to the execution level, ensuring a high-quality finish. Both the materials used, and the installed provisions surpass today’s stringent standards. We also emphasised responsible energy consumption, aiming to reduce energy costs and ongoing operational expenses.

Result

A flexible, market-compliant design tailored to a range of operational needs. The “Afrikahaven” business premises are configured for both wide and narrow aisle applications, facilitated by their thoughtful grid layout. The concrete floors are engineered to support loads of 4,000 kg/m² with a point load capacity of 7,200 kg.

A fully certified ESFR sprinkler system enables stacking to a maximum height of 10.7 metres. The office areas feature a spacious entrance, central heating and cooling for comfort, and suspended ceilings fitted with screen-friendly lighting providing 500 lux.

Beyond the asphalt paving, the plots are secured with access gates and fencing. There are dedicated parking spaces for passenger vehicles as well as ample sidings for trailers.
