About the Project
”A partner in the energy transition and in making waste management more sustainable”, that’s how HVC describes itself. As a specialist in energy and reuse, HVC supports municipalities and water authorities.
A strong example of this is the sustainability of greenhouse horticulture through the connection of the Aardwarmte Maasdijk project to a local heat network. The cultivation of flowers, plants, vegetables, and fruit requires a great deal of heat. Growers often rely on natural gas in their greenhouses. In Maasdijk, several initiatives have already been launched to make this heat supply more sustainable by using geothermal energy.
Extracting geothermal energy requires two wells; a so-called doublet. Hot water is pumped up through the production well. The heat from this water is extracted using heat exchangers and transferred into a local heating network. The cooled water is then returned underground via the injection well.
As the salt content of groundwater is around five times higher than that of seawater, it is essential to use plastic piping for a geothermal network.
For the construction of three geothermal doublets, Aardwarmte Maasdijk partnered with HVC; and HVC in turn called on Vicoma’s expertise.
Vicoma’s Role
Our main task was piping engineering; but we did more than that. We carried out quality control on the design for the geothermal project and ensured consistency between the contractor’s isometric drawings and the actual piping being installed.
By closely monitoring progress throughout the execution phase, we kept the client fully informed on how the project was advancing at every stage.
Result
A one-hundred-per-cent match between the design and the contractor’s execution. The pipes are in place, and the geothermal station is up and running.
Another strong contribution from Vicoma towards a more sustainable future.

Main question
Reducing the leaching period of toxic substances from twenty years to five years.
Result
One hundred percent alignment between the design and the contractor’s execution. The pipelines have been connected, and the geothermal energy station is operational.
