About the Project
How do we keep the electricity grid fit for the future?
This question lies at the heart of the challenges faced by Dutch grid operators. The energy transition is in full swing, and these operators are responsible for both the high-voltage and medium-voltage transmission and distribution networks. They are taking comprehensive measures to future-proof the grid.
To increase reliability and flexibility, outdated components and installations are being replaced. Grid expansion and reinforcement are also key strategies; enabling the connection of new wind and solar farms and supporting the electrification of industry.
High-voltage substations play a vital role in the transmission and distribution network. These are the points where multiple high-voltage lines and cables converge. Transformers reduce the voltage for the distribution network, while the secondary systems ensure safe operation of the grid. These secondary systems provide layered protection and enable rapid response in the event of a fault.
Vicoma’s Role
Vicoma specialises in the complete secondary installation of high-voltage substations and industrial facilities. Our specialists also possess in-depth knowledge of the associated building systems and primary installations.
We work daily on secondary engineering for almost all Dutch grid operators, delivering detailed engineering and work packages for both renovation and expansion projects. During implementation, our engineers serve as key points of contact for the technicians on site. Upon completion, we provide a full as-built drawing package, ensuring the client has an accurate and up-to-date overview of the installation.
Result
In recent years, Vicoma has carried out secondary engineering for nearly all high-voltage substations across the central and northern regions of the Netherlands. Grid operators and their regional networks hold few secrets from us.
