About the Project

Turnaround: Gunvor approached Vicoma for a thorough inspection and improvement of a plant as part of a scheduled shutdown; a classic turnaround in the process industry.
The tight deadline of just eighteen months presented a significant challenge. Within this limited timeframe, our engineers had to achieve a great deal. This demanded dedication, commitment, and flexibility from both our team and the client. Clear communication, a robust plan rigorously followed, and creative sequencing of tasks were essential to keep on schedule.

Vicoma’s Role

Vicoma embraced the challenge with full commitment. Covering process, piping, mechanical, civil, and electrical & instrumentation (E&I) disciplines, no time was wasted. We began immediately with the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design), a proven approach to establish project feasibility and high-level guidelines.

We also promptly prepared specifications for the “long lead items.” Due to lengthy delivery times, these critical pieces of equipment, such as tanks, vessels, columns, heat exchangers, and pumps, needed to be ordered first to ensure timely arrival.

Once the FEED and specifications were approved, Vicoma managed procurement, coordinating inspections and expediting processes. Official inspections were conducted in collaboration with certified inspectors from 3P Quality Services.
Simultaneously, we progressed with detailed engineering and prepared specifications for the “tagged items.” Vicoma also handled the request, evaluation, and ordering of this equipment.

Result

Thanks to meticulous planning, a flexible approach, and excellent collaboration, all equipment and engineering were delivered on time. The plant is now fully operational and performing perfectly.
