About the Project
Goodman took part in a competitive bid to acquire two key sites in the Port of Rotterdam. To strengthen their proposal, they enlisted Vicoma’s expertise to support the technical and design aspects of their submission.
Vicoma’s Role
Vicoma conducted a thorough assessment of the zoning plans and relevant regulations for both locations. Based on these findings and Goodman’s Programme of Requirements, we developed architectural designs for both buildings and created the corresponding site layouts.
Particular focus was placed on fire safety. The initial three-storey design for the “Shannonweg” site posed significant challenges, as it did not comply with existing standards. By applying practical engineering judgement and creative thinking, we succeeded in developing a robust and defensible fire safety concept.
Result
The outcome was a bold and ambitious design: a landmark distribution centre with a gross floor area exceeding 150,000 m²; our largest multi-level concept to date. Although Goodman’s bid was ultimately unsuccessful, this project further advanced our knowledge of multi-storey logistics facilities and reinforced our capabilities for future developments.
