About the Project
The global demand for sustainable energy and phosphate-based fertilisers is rapidly increasing. To meet this demand, Ecoson, a subsidiary of Darling Ingredients International, needed to significantly expand its capacity. The expansion encompassed a wide range of interventions, including the enlargement of the existing digestion plant, construction of a new manure digestion facility, installation of a biogas engine with heat recovery, an upgrading plant to convert biogas into green gas, and a facility to process digestate from manure digestion into bio-phosphate pellets.
Vicoma provided intensive supervision of the Ecoson Energy Park expansion; a major project carried out over a two-year period.
Vicoma’s Role
We conducted safety studies, managed the engineering, and took responsibility for procurement and construction management. Additionally, we optimised water management and coordinated the utilities, buildings, and connecting systems to integrate seamlessly with the expansion.
Result
The expansion increased capacity by 100,000 tonnes of manure, supplied 4.6 million cubic metres of green gas per year to the natural gas grid, and produced green electricity alongside bio-phosphate fertiliser pellets for viticulture. So, next time you enjoy a fine glass of wine, think of us!
