About the Project
A Floating Production Storage and Offloading installation (FPSO) is essentially a complete oil production facility at sea. Vicoma played a key role in the conversion of the FPSO Aoka Mizu on behalf of Bluewater Energy Services. This vessel extracts oil from the Lancaster field in the North Sea for Hurricane Energy.
The project involved extensive modifications to the turret (the vessel’s pivot point) and multiple topside skids (structural frames). These changes needed to meet the production requirements, operational conditions, and strict regulations of the offshore extraction site.
Vicoma’s Role
Vicoma took charge of designing and installing the piping systems connecting the buoy to the topside skids. The challenge was to fit a large volume of piping, including large-diameter pipes with complex 3D-radius bends, into a very confined space. We also prioritised accessibility, safety, and ease of maintenance in our design solutions.
Result
The Aoka Mizu was successfully converted at Dubai Drydocks, and oil production off the west coast of the Shetland Islands is now underway.
