Attero: Plastic recycling boosted by construction of Aganfoils facility

About the Project

“Aganfoils” stands for “As good as new foils”. Waste processor Attero has invested €30 million in the construction of a Polymer Recycling Plant in Wijster. The aim of this recycling project is to convert plastic from household waste into new film. The granulate produced after recycling must have a higher plastic value. To achieve this, Attero utilises a new technology that is unique by European standards.

An intensive washing process using water at 80 °C removes 96 to 98 percent of the existing plastic odour, thereby increasing the recycled plastic’s value.

The regranulate must be suitable for manufacturing new film products such as bin bags, pipes, and applications within the automotive industry. Vicoma played a key role in the realisation of this project.

Vicoma’s Role

Vicoma designed the steam and condensate systems as well as the platforms for the chillers. During construction, our electrical engineering and instrumentation specialists joined the project management team, overseeing collaboration between the main contractor and subcontractors. Our mechanical engineers were present on-site throughout the factory’s development to resolve any issues that arose.

Result

A granulate factory capable of producing up to 24,000 tonnes of foil per year. Vicoma made a valuable contribution to this innovative project. Due to their unique approach, Attero was awarded a LIFE grant from the European Union. Frans Timmermans, Vice-President of the European Commission, officially opened the factory.
