About the Project
AkzoNobel Coatings in Sassenheim faced the challenge of replacing pipes along an existing, congested pipe bridge with minimal downtime.
To tackle this complex task, they engaged Vicoma.
The existing pipe bridge was highly congested, presenting a significant challenge in determining the optimal routing for the new pipes. A detailed
3D scan was performed to gain precise insights and facilitate planning.
To minimise downtime, the pipe conversion was carefully phased into two steps. In the first phase, new pipes were installed alongside the existing ones on the initial section of the route. Following this, half of the old pipes were removed and replaced with the new pipes. This successful approach was then repeated for the second phase.
Vicoma’s Role
Vicoma leveraged its expertise in 3D scanning and detailed engineering studies to present several well-founded routing options, enabling AkzoNobel to select
the best solution for their needs. We took charge of the detailed engineering for the chosen conversion method.
Phasing was a critical component of the project, and Vicoma demonstrated that conducting the conversion in two phases would ensure a short turnaround time and minimise operational downtime.
Result
Thanks to thorough preparation and clear communication, the pipe replacement was executed seamlessly with minimal disruption. The renewed pipeline route equips AkzoNobel with a reliable infrastructure to confidently support future operations.
