About the Project
For its new headquarters and distribution centre, Abbott Vascular deliberately chose Business Park Trilandis. The favourable location for distribution across surrounding European countries, the proximity of major parcel hubs, and the growing “medical character” of the South Limburg region were key factors. Abbott wanted a new building to accommodate future growth and improve efficiency by consolidating two sites into one.
Vicoma’s Role
Originally based in Ulestraten (near Maastricht), Abbott’s new facility in Heerlen was designed with environmental considerations in mind. Vicoma incorporated triple-glazed insulated windows, underfloor heating, an energy-efficient ventilation system, and LED lighting. Abbott continuously optimises its logistics processes to minimise the impact of packaging materials and transport, reflecting its global commitment to environmental protection. We ensured these principles were fully integrated into the design.
Result
The distribution centre spans a total of 5,300 m², including 4,600 m² of warehouse space and three office floors covering 1,350 m². Two mezzanine floors were installed in the warehouse and dispatch areas, adding a further 1,000 m² of usable floor space. The entire hall features underfloor heating to provide a comfortable and productive working environment.
